I planned to au pair with the assumption that I would be welcomed into a home as a friend and an equal. Unfortunately this was not the case. The first couple weeks were great. After this things started to digress. I never expected perfection and fully understood there would be misunderstandings, but what unraveled was beyond misunderstanding. At the beginning of October, when the situation was at its worse, I just happened to have a vacation week and took my first solo trip to Ireland.
