Saturday, June 23, 2012. So, when I was a kid there was a series of canals that ran throughout the city to irrigate the crops. The water that flowed throughout the canals was extremely murky - skuzzy, in fact. The banks were very steep cement and a locked chain-linked gate usually secured the area around them. Sorta like where the Greasers raced Greased Lightening at Thunder Road, except smaller. In fact my cousins lived in the way-way country and had a canal run directly behind their property.
