After a busy weekend debriefing, exploring the city of Durban and visiting the Nelson Mandela Capture Site with our wonderful hosts, we piled back in the vans to facilitate our second workshop with farmers in Swayimane. We started the workshop with presentations on three water conservation methods. Swales, irrigation and cover crops were selected because farmers had expressed the most interest in learning about them in our surveys.

The Student Multidisciplinary Applied Research Teams, also known as the SMART Program, brings together teams of students and faculty at Cornell University from diverse disciplines and pairs them with firms, organizations, or community groups located in developing countries. The teams work on well-defined assignments that challenge students to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the classroom in real world settings.

Monday, January 18, 2016. Last of the Excursions and Meetings. Today was the first time I have ever visited a royal palace. That is still a residence. The palace is so new because during the Khmer Empire, the capital was in Siem Reap.
